Review of Jimmy John’s Vito Sandwich

I find myself to be an avid fan of submarine sandwiches. Most notably I enjoy a good tangy Italian sub. Italian subs are tasty as they introduce the flavors of spicy deli meats, cheese, vinaigrettes and some fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The absolute best Italian sub sandwich will usually originate from some lesser known “mom and pop” owned deli where you get a very large sub sandwich that is loaded with meats and cheeses that can easily feed you over the course of two meals. While these sandwich establishments produce some of the tastiest sandwiches, they are usually far away from work or home so we need to seek out local eateries to satisfy our Italian sub urges.

I thought I would try out the local Jimmy John’s to see what they had for my Italian Sub craving. There version of the Italian sub is called the “Vito”. This submarine sandwich is built upon an 8 inch French roll. It includes Genoa salami, capicola, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a splash of vinaigrette. The option when ordering the sandwich is to include the addition of the hot peppers that makes the sandwich even spicier.

The Verdict

The sandwich was to my liking as I really enjoyed the freshly made French bread. The meat and cheese portions were a little light but tasted really good. My criticism of the lower quantity of meat and cheese is really attributed to the loaded subs I purchase at the ethnic delis. The lettuce and tomatoes were colorful in appearance and seemed to taste better than I would expect this early in the season. I don’t think I gave this sandwich a fair test initially as my follow up visits included the zesty extras such as onions and hot peppers. One item to change with the Vito would be to order it with extra meat and cheese, but that will also cost you extra.

Price

I would say that the prices for Jimmy John’s subs are fair. The location I visit charges $4.85 for an 8 inch Italian sub sandwich. The sandwich fills me up for one meal and I usually opt for the barbecue potato chips by Jimmy John’s that are out of this world. Adding a drink to this order usually sets me back about seven bucks, but I walk out feeling content with a great sandwich and tasty chips in my belly.

Service-Cleanliness

The Jimmy John’s provides very fast service as the sandwich makers seem to crank out every sandwich as if they are in race. While the food preparers are fast and friendly, the customer service skills of the cashier leaves a bit to be desired. Every visit to the local Jimmy John’s usually begins with an expressionless “Welcome to Jimmy John’s, can I take your order”. I sort of feel like another number every time I go.
