Positively Perfect Potter Fodder: The Harry Potter Lego Key Chain Series

Harry Potter is still a hot commodity. Even with the series of books and movies coming to a close, Potter Mania lives on. The partnership between Lego and Warner Brothers was fruitful; it saw a plethora of construction sets released and with it can the add-on products like the key chains and chess sets.

What makes these worth collecting? First, they are officially licensed products so you are getting the real deal. Second, they are soon to be retired from production so the price is only going to increase on them over time. Lastly, they are a nice item to wear in a backpack, zipper pull or as a key holder if you are a Potter fanatic.

These key chains are exact copies of the figures that appeared in the Lego sets with one small difference, they do not come apart and are therefore not customizable. Their arms and legs move but there is a metal spine in them that helps to keep them from falling apart. They are well made and will last for years if you care for them properly. Most of them come with a small Lego logo tile that can be removed if you so desire.

One of my favorites in the series is Snape. With that slightly sour scowl of his, you never know what he is up to or which side he holds allegiance to. The Harry Potter figures are done up nicely but the Tournament version is the nicest but the hardest to find. Dumbledore resembles one of the old wizard figures from the medieval themed Lego sets but it is Hagrid that steals the show by being the biggest figure. Poor Hermione looks as drab as ever with her brown locks slightly askew.

These key chains had a suggested selling price of $2.99 to $4.99 depending on where you were shopping but they were a hard find in retail stores because of the poor packaging. They were prone to theft since they were not sold in a boxed format like standard Lego sets. The price has increased a little on them over the past year so if you are thinking abut investing them for pleasure or profit, this is the time to do it.

There are a lot of different styled Harry Potter key chains for sale; some are metal and have an incredibly inlay to them, others are plastic with various characters on display. If you are going to try to collect all of them be sure to use the Lego product number (listed next to the name) to ensure that you are getting the one that you want.

If you are a Harry Potter or Lego fan these are great collectibles. If you know someone that is into either of these, keep these key chains in mind if you need a small gift for them. They look great, are durable and kill two ‘gift birds’ with one sorcerers stone.
