How to Stop Gurgling in the Stomach

Does your tummy gurgle all the time? It can be very embarrassing when your stomach makes sounds you can’t control. Oftentimes, that rumbling sound in your stomach is your body’s way of saying it’s having some difficulty with digestion. Here’s what you can do.

Why Your Stomach Make Sounds

Belly gurgling and rumbling noises are a normal part of digestion. However if, in addition to the gurgling, you also experience excessive flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, acid reflux, or constipation, this could be a sign of a digestive disorder.

Common digestive problems that lead to tummy gurgling include:

  • Poor Diet

If your diet consists of mostly processed foods such as fast food, microwavable meals, canned food, and boxed food, this could be the cause of your constant rumbling tummy. Processed foods like this contain preservatives, chemicals, and artificial sweeteners your body doesn’t recognize as nutrition and can make digestion very difficult.

  • Food Intolerance

Another common cause of that embarrassing rumbling sound in your stomach is food intolerance. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye and people who cannot digest this protein live with chronic gut inflammation.

This inflammation causes symptoms such as chronic abdominal pain, gurgling in the stomach, diarrhea, muscle pain, brain fog, and learning disabilities. Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest the sugar in lactose products. Symptoms of this common food intolerance include bloating, belly gurgling, chronic gas, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.

Due to poor diet and food allergies, millions of people struggle with a condition called hypochlorhydria or low stomach acid. A person with low stomach acid has a very difficult time digesting food, which can lead to chronic tummy gurgling as well as acid reflux, nausea, bloating, and indigestion.

Over half of the United States population has some sort of parasite living in their body. If, in addition to excessive stomach rumbling, you also experience frequent diarrhea, chronic gas, insomnia (especially waking at 3 a.m.), itchy skin, rashes, multiple food allergies, irritability, and mood swings, intestinal parasites could be the culprit. This is especially true if the noises are very loud and frequent.

How to Quell That Rumbling Sound in Your Tummy

  • Eat Healthy

The easiest way to get rid of that gurgling in your stomach is to get rid of all the processed foods in your diet and dine on whole food only. Easy-to-digest foods such as oatmeal, soups, stews, brown rice, steamed vegetables, chicken, and fish are best. Also, eat smaller meals to give your digestive system a chance to process the food before the next meal.

The best way to test for food allergies is to go on an elimination diet. Remove all sources of gluten and lactose products from your diet for a period of at least one month. After the month is over, reintroduce a lot of wheat and gluten products to test for a reaction. Two days later, add lactose products and see how you feel. Once you find the offending food, you’ll know!

  • Add a Digestive Aid and Probiotic

Low stomach acid and poor digestion can be treated by adding a digestive aid and probiotic to your diet. Digestive enzymes increase your natural stomach acid and help you break down and absorb nutrients from food. Probiotics increase your healthy gut bacteria, treat constipation, and boost your immune system. When choosing a probiotic, look for one with a high colony forming unit and no additives or preservatives.

  • Use a Parasite Cleanse
