Have a Disney Themed Wedding Without the Theme Park

How many people dream of getting married at a Disney Resort? Where better to say your vows than the most magical place on Earth, right? Well to a point, yes, but you don’t have to BE on Disney property to have the magic included in your special day. There are so many things you can do to make your day magical for both you and your guests.

I am a Disney fan and have been all my life. So of course, I have always dreamed of getting married in Walt Disney World. I did have my dream, but I sacrificed how I wanted the ceremony, the guests I wanted, and the wedding party I wanted. There was no reception after, nor was there even a wedding party. There wasn’t even a wedding dress. It wasn’t until after we were married that I started the research of having a Disney themed wedding. If only I had done this before. Now, I’m working on doing this for a vow renewal.

First, decide what type of Disney theme you want. Do you want a fun theme? Perhaps you want a fairytale theme. Maybe you even want a fantasy theme. There are so many ways to feel as if you’re in the middle of a Disney resort during that special day. Hopefully some of the tips I can give you will get you started on your way to a wedding full of Disney.

Music: Everyone has music at their wedding and many people put a lot of thought into the right songs to have included in your ceremony. There’s no reason you can’t have Disney music throughout your whole wedding. Disney makes a wonderful CD called Disney Fairytale Wedding CD which you can get online at DisneyShopping.com. For right around $20 USD, you can have some beautiful instrumental Disney love songs. This is your day and you deserve to feel like royalty!

Wedding Attire: This can be one of the toughest parts of the wedding planning process. There are so many choices that it clouds your mind with chaos. While so many brides either want something very simple or very detailed, why not go for the classic Cinderella gown and tiara? This the bride’s day to feel like a princess and a great way to do that is to BE a princess. There are items available to the groom as well. If you don’t want to get too extravagant for him, check out your local shops for Disney vests or ties. This can go right along to the groomsmen too. As far as the bridesmaids, think about getting them some beautiful Disney themed jewelry to wear on your day. How about a pair of earrings and maybe a necklace? This is a great subtle way to tie Disney into every aspect of your wedding party.

Menu: Since you can’t be at a Disney park with their food, get some of Disney’s famous recipes online. There are many sources for Disney recipes that are available and as far as the presentation, that’s up to you. Do you want to spend your time on that (or do you HAVE the time)? Pick out a few delicious dishes to serve to your guests and the meal will be remembered by all. If you don’t want to serve individual plates, you could also do this buffet style. This way, you wouldn’t have to worry about the presentation either. Go out on a limb and be different. This will give your guests something to rave on about to their friends and family.

Cake: The famous wedding cake. It’s what everyone has to see at the wedding. It tends to be the center of some major attention and everyone talks about it. There are so many possibilities here. You can start with cake toppers. There are many Disney toppers available at DisneyShopping.com. Or how about using a simple glass slipper as your topper for your fairytale wedding theme? Here’s another idea that will get people talking for sure. Don’t have a tiered wedding cake. Instead, have one large round cake, and two smaller round cakes. Make the smaller one frosted in chocolate frosting. Frost the larger one in a lighter colored frosting. Arrange these cakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head. Use the smaller cakes as the ears. You can even get Mickey Mouse shaped pastel sprinkles that you could use over the large section. This choice would definitely be a unique way to show your love of Disney at your big event.

Favors: This is probably one of the best parts of planning a wedding – especially a Disney themed wedding. You have so many options and choices. You can be completely creative during this process. I would suggest making your own favors as it’s more personal and honestly, it can really be a lot of fun. Just plan it all out and plan to take some time to do this so you’re not rushed. There is a great selection at InvitationsByDawn.com in the Disney theme section. There are some great favor packages that you can just fill with your own items, such as chocolates.

Invitations: Start it all out by getting your guests in a Disney mood. Who can resist the elegance of a Disney wedding invitation? Again, InvitationsByDawn.com is a great place to check it all out. They have some absolutely beautiful invitations available for you. There are other places that have more choices as well. You could even make your own invitations. All you need is a good printer, some high quality paper, envelopes, and some graphic artist skills. It really isn’t hard to do, but you need to have the patience and time to do it as well.

There are so many things you can do while planning that special day to make it full of Disney magic. Use your imagination. Think outside of that traditional wedding box. So many weddings have balloons, but go a step further and use Mickey Mouse or Disney balloons. You want to remember your special day and there’s no better way to do that than to make your guests remember your day too. Put something “Disney” in every aspect of your wedding. Once you get your mind wandering and working, you’ll come up with some wonderful ideas.

So again, you don’t have to be at a Disney resort to have a Disney wedding. You can do that anywhere. Save a Disney resort for the honeymoon. What better way to complete that special time of your life than to visit the magic you have tried to recreate? I can’t think of a better way to do that. Your wedding is about you and should reflect your life and personality.
