Boo at the Zoo at CALM, in Bakersfield California

Every year the California Living Museum (CALM for short) in Bakersfield California, has a fun filled Halloween event called Boo at the Zoo. Last year I took my children there and a good time was had by all. It’s a safe event for the entire family to go to. This year CALM is having their Boo at the Zoo on October 27th from 10 Am to 4 PM.

Boo at the Zoo is a Halloween event that my kids truly enjoyed. CALM has areas set up where the kids can play games and win a prize. They also have areas set up by their playground where the kids can make Halloween and animal crafts. Everyone volunteering at the event is very nice and helpful. While your child is going from section to section playing games and trick or treating, they’re able to see all the animals and birds that CALM has to offer. It’s also the perfect place to have a picnic at as there are several picnic tables by a grassy area. Their playground has a swing set, and a cement tunnel that your kids can walk and play in.

The favorite attraction last year of most trick or treater’s was the train ride. CALM has a small train and track that goes along one end of the California Living Museum. Parents can ride on the train with their children. You can see part of the Wildlife zoo and surrounding areas of Bakersfield while you enjoy your train ride. Tickets cost extra so make sure you buy them when you first come in.

If you need snacks or drinks, you can buy them inside the gift shop. The California Living Museum’s gift shop is packed full of goodies to buy. They sell books, stuffed animal, plastic toy animals, jewelry, and much more. Proceeds help the zoo with buying food for the animals and other things they need.

Admission into the California Living Museum for adults is $6.50. For children 3 to 17 years old, it costs $3.50. Children under 3 can get into CALM for free. Children from 3 to 17 years old can get one dollar off the price of admission if they come dressed up in a costume. If your a senior citizen, your admission is $4.50. Students over 17 can get in for $3.50 when they show their student ID. If you plan on going to this event, I recommend going early because Bakersfield is still hot this time of year and you don’t want your little munchkin’s to overheat in their costumes.

My children really enjoyed seeing the animals as they got to trick or treat at the Zoo. We saw coyotes, mule deer, bears, snakes, lizards, foxes, raccoons and birds. There were plenty of great photo opportunities so remember to bring your camera.

For more information on the California Living Museum’s Boo At The Zoo, call (661) 872-2256. They are located at 10500 Alfred Harrell Hwy Bakersfield, CA 93306. Even if you can’t make it for Boo At The Zoo, I recommend going other times during the year to see the wonderful wildlife.
