Black and White Fleur De Lis Dresser

One of the greatest ways to create custom furniture is by simply adding a bit of paint! This gorgeous black and white Fleur de Lis dresser project is perfect for a French or Parisian -inspired bedroom or home office.

For this project, you will need:

– One wood dresser with removable drawers, in fairly good condition

Paint thinner or stripper

– Medium grit sandpaper

– Soft cloth or tack cloth

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss White

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black

– Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive

Masking tape

– Large sheet of brown craft paper

– Six inch or larger Fleur de Lis shaped stencil

– Pencil

– Craft knife

– Self healing mat

– New hardware (metal or crystal style)

– Large plastic or fabric drop cloth

Make sure your work area is well ventilated and covered with a large plastic or fabric drop cloth. (Outside areas work well when painting furniture.) Remove the drawers from the dresser and take off any existing hardware. Use a bit of paint thinner or stripper according to manufacturer directions if any existing paint or stain exists on the dresser. Sand the outside of the wood plus the front of any drawers with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust created by the sanding process with a soft cloth or tack cloth.

Spray the outside of the dresser cabinet with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Repeat this priming process with the front of each dresser drawer. Allow the primed wood to dry for five to six hours.

Paint the outside of the dresser cabinet with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss White. Let the paint dry for four to five hours before adding a second coat. Allow the dresser cabinet to dry overnight.

Mask of everything but the drawer fronts on each dresser drawer. Spray the drawer fronts using an even layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Wait two to three hours before adding a second coat. Let the drawer fronts dry overnight before proceeding.

Place a large sheet of brown craft paper on a self healing mat. In pencil, trace a six inch or larger Fleur de Lis shaped design from the stencil. Repeat this process, creating one sheet per drawer front. Cut out the shape from the paper with a craft knife. Discard the shape, leaving an exposed “stencil” on the craft paper.

Spray the back of the craft paper with Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the paper to the front of the dresser drawer. Smooth with your fingers to prevent wrinkles or bubbles in the paper. Spray the exposed Fleur de Lis design with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss White. Wait for an hour to two hours before adding a second coat. Dry overnight.

Peel off the craft paper. Install the new hardware onto the drawers before replacing the drawers back into the cabinet.
