The list of top country songs of 2010 according to record sales and airplay was dominated by male musicians. This is t the best of the best from that list. The lyrical content in the songs vary from love to rain. Surprisingly, a lot of the top country songs of 2010 were written by hired songwriters, and not the singer. That does not take away from the songs, because all of them are sung with heart and pure emotion.

  1. “Love Like Crazy” by Lee Brice. The title track from Lee Brice’s 2009 debut studio album was the top country song of 2010. According to Billboard it was the most heard country song from 2010. The lyrics depict a couples long relationship, which is reminiscent to Brice’s. This top country song was a slow climber, and it took 40-weeks to enter into the Top 20 Country chart.
  2. “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum. This top country song of 2010 is the title track from Lady Antebellum’s sophomore album. The country band wrote this song with co-writer Josh Kear, and it is about not wanting to be alone at night. The lyrics revolve around missing an ex at night, and struggling with if they should call or not. It was a huge crossover success, and won two American Country Music Awards, two Grammy Awards and a Country Music Award. Their Grammy win for Record of the Year marks only the second time a country song has won that category.
  3. “Rain is a Good Thing” by Luke Bryan. This top country song from 2010 is off the album “Doin’ My Thing.” Bryan co-wrote the country song with Dallas Davidson, who has penned hit songs for other country artists. This upbeat and fun top country song praises rain. The lyrics are about how important and good rain is for farmers. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Country chart, which was Bryan’s first time being in the top spot.
  4. “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood. This top country song of 2010 was written by Carrie Underwood, Zac Maloy and Luke Laird. Before their writing session started Underwood already had the song title, and storyline mapped out. The song tells three separate stories about temporary bad situations they were living. It is a sad yet inspirational song about how if things seem bleak to always remember it is temporary. This song reached #1 on the Country Songs chart, and was #25 on the Top Country Songs of 2010 list according to airplay and sales.
  5. “Why Don’t We Just Dance” by Josh Turner. Released as the first single from Turner’s fourth studio album “Haywire,” this single went on to be one of the top country songs from 2010. Even though Josh Turner performs this country song, it was written by Jim Beavers, Jonathan Singleton and Darrell Brown. The song incorporates the piano, and is musically catchy. The lyrics are lighthearted and about Turner wanting to let go with his lady and dance. No matter how stressful things get, they can just dance in their living room to lose themselves in the moment.
