The 10 Tallest Roller Coasters in the World

There are many things that make a great roller coaster. A roller coaster must have some loops, a lot of speed and of course some great drops. In order for a roller coaster to have a good drop it must have parts of the roller coaster that are very tall. The following ten roller coasters are the tallest roller coasters in the world.

10th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Goliath
Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, California, USA)
Height: 235 Feet
The Goliath has never been the tallest roller coaster in the world but at one point in time it did have the record for highest and longest drop in the world.

9th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Silver Star
Europa Park (Rust, Baden Wuertternberg, Germany)
Height: 240 Feet
The Silver Star is only the 9th tallest roller coaster in the world but it is the tallest in Europe.

8th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Titan
Six Flags over Texas (Arlington, Texas, USA)
Height: 245 Feet
I’ve mentioned in previous articles that the Titan and the Goliath are almost identical. One of the few differences is that the Titan is a mere 10 feet taller than the Goliath.

7th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Eejanaika
Fuji-Q Highland (Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan)
Height: 249 Feet
The Eejanaika was the second 4th Dimension roller coaster ever made. On a 4th Dimension roller coaster the people riding are positioned on the side of the track and the seats are capable of spinning on a horizontal axis.

6th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Fujiyama
Fuji-Q Highland (Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan)
Height: 259 Feet
In July of 1996 the Fujiyama became the tallest roller coaster in the world. It remained number one for nearly four years, which is longer than any roller coaster that has become number one since.

5th Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Thunder Dolphin
LaQua (Tokyo, Japan)
Height: 263 Feet
The Thunder Dolphin is known for its track that takes riders through a building and a ferris wheel.

Height: 310 Feet
The highest point of the Millennium Force overlooks Lake Eerie and at the time that it was built it was the tallest roller coaster in the world.

3rd Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Steel Dragon 2000
Nagashima Spa Land (Nagashima, Mie, Japan
Height: 318 Feet
For about two and a half years the Steel Dragon was the tallest roller coaster in the world. Since then it has been passed up by two other American roller coasters but it remains the tallest roller coaster in Japan.

2nd Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Top Thrill Dragster
Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio, USA)
Height: 420 Feet
The Top Thrill Dragster was the first ever stratacoaster, which is defined as a circuit coaster that is 400 to 499 feet tall.

Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson Township, New Jersey, USA)
Height: 456 Feet
When the Kingda Ka opened in 2005 it became the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.
