Revlon’s ColorStay Aqua

Revlon is a cosmetics brand that is primarily sold in drugstores and mass retailers such as Wal-Mart. You can also find this brand in Ulta stores, which sell beauty related products.

I have been using a liquid foundation under their line, PhotoReady, and liked it very much, so decided to try out another face makeup from Revlon.

I had a coupon for their “ColorStay Aqua” mineral makeup, and decided to give it a try.

If you have ever bought Bare Minerals or another brand of powder mineral makeup than you might like the ColorStay Aqua.

This foundation is much more expensive than other powders at the drugstore though. This retails for around $15. Even with a manufacture’s coupon, this was still several dollars more than other brands.

I bought the lightest color, “fair/light”, and hoped for the best. If you have light, fair, or porcelain skin than this color should be a good match.

This is completely unlike any other makeup in my collection. For starters, the packaging is great. For the price, you receive 9.9 grams of product in a clear jar with a black screw off lid. The small application brush is enclosed in the lid. You simply slide this off when you are ready to apply. The brush is extremely soft, but there is one con. The brush slides from a clear enclosure, but the locking buttons on the side which allows the brush to be fully extended do not close tightly enough allowing the brush to slide back in.

Twist off the cap to reveal a sifting lid. Simply shake out a small amount of mineral powder into the bottom of the lid and dip the brush into the minerals.

This makeup feels wet when applied. This feeling is very soothing and even though the finish is very sheer, you can tell where you have applied the foundation by the cooling, almost menthol, feel of the powder itself. Even though it feels moist, there is absolutely no sliding around and your face is matte and ready for other cosmetic products.

This isn’t a true matte shade however. Though hard to describe, this gives your face a matte feel while allowing a glow like finish to emerge.

I would not recommend this to those wanting a full coverage makeup. I have worn this alone and only see a small amount of covering to blemishes and freckles. This can make pores appear larger, but I have found that using this as a setting powder over the PhotoReady is fantastic. If you want an airbrushed look, using this as your final finishing powder is a must.

While I do like the packaging, it can get a bit messy when opening the lid, so please be careful to not spill out the product. Also, screwing the lid back on can be a challenge if there is any mineral powder still in the cap.

This is a great powder, well worth the higher drugstore price, and perfect for the summer as it gives off a cooling feel.
