Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Sun

Gather together several small manipulative of different colors. These could be counting bears, bed bugs from the board game of the same name, poker chips and so on. Give your preschool students plastic tweezers. Instruct them to pick up only the yellow objects with the tweezers and drop them into a yellow container. You can also use this activity with larger objects of different colors and plastic tongs.

Gross Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Sun

Sun stretches: Have your students stand arms length from one another. Have them squat down on the floor. Tell them to rise up like the sun, stretching their arms out and over their heads when you say the words, “Rise and shine!” Continue this movement activity with more stretches of your choice.

Art Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Sun

Sunflower seed suns: In your preschool classroom’s art center, set out a sheet of white construction paper cut into a large circle for each student, yellow paints and paint brushes, elmer’s glue and unshelled sunflower seeds. Instruct your preschool students to paint the circles yellow and then glue sunflower seeds all of over the painted circles. If you like, you can have your preschool students cut the circles out themselves prior to painting and decorating.

Pre-math Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Sun

Place a large yellow circle on your preschool classroom’s flannel board. Tell your students it is the sun. Have your student come up, one at a time, and roll a die. Have them count the number of dots that they rolled on the die. Now instruct them to count out that number of yellow triangles and and place them around the yellow circle for the sun’s rays.

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Sun

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters S and s lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. do the same with the number 1.

For older students, provide an example of the letters S and s and the number 1. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.

Write the word sun on your preschool classroom’s white board. Let your students copy the word on the white board with yellow dry erase markers.
