Greg Fitzsimmons at Hilarities

It was a cold and dreary February day and I was off to an evening comedy show. I won eight tickets and was able to bring seven friends at no cost to them. My friends and I enjoy going to the local comedy clubs because we are usually guaranteed quality comedians.

Pickwick and Frolic is affiliated with the 515 Euclid Avenue parking garage which with the purchase of food or drinks at the restaurant, comedy club, or bars, entitles one to only pay two dollars and fifty cents for parking. The only catch is that when you park in the garage if there is an attendant you have to let them know you are going to the comedy club and will get your parking validated at Pickwick and Frolic. Otherwise one might end up paying event pricing for the parking garage and that could be anywhere from ten dollars and up.

Pickwick and Frolic is located at 2035 East Fourth Street, in Cleveland Ohio. This restaurant and comedy club is in the heart of Cleveland walking distance from Tower City, House of Blues, Jacob’s Field , and Quicken Loan’s Arena. Pickwick and Frolic is an upscale restaurant offering gourmet food at high prices.

The basement houses the comedy club, called Hilarities. Hilarities offers plenty of seating in the form of couches, chairs, and rows of seats. The stage is in front of the audience allowing audience members to see the stage no matter where they are seated. The stage has a beautiful purple curtain and is rather small for the comedians allowing them little room to move about. The comedy club offers appetizers (mozzarella sticks, fruit trays, veggie trays, and many other options) meals (especially if you ask for the upstairs abbreviated menu), desserts, and drinks. At the present the club expects patrons to buy two items at minimum for each show. The food is moderately high priced for small portions.

Greg Fitzsimmons was the feature act on this Thursday’s show. Gregory is known for his writing for “The Wanda Sykes Show.” The opening acts were mostly local comedians with one being from out of town. Brian and Joe ( local radio personalities) opened the show with a song that had misleading words, for example the song went You have a nice Dick—- then went on to say dictation machine. This got the crowd laughing with the misleading wording. Next was a local comedian who made some funny sexual jokes and picked on an audience member who was a local mayor. Next up was R. C. Smith, a comedian hailing from New York City. R. C. was outgoing and made fun of audience members for what they said and how they acted. This got laughs from the audience including the members that were mocked.

Finally Greg Fitzsimmons took the stage. Greg took the stage and started off with jokes about his penis and balls. The comedian focused on sexual acts and interracial dating. He had some strong jokes but did not go on to talk about other topics. He had me laughing with the other audience members because he was hilarious. My one complaint would be for him to add more jokes to his repertoire that are not sexual. Not to say he was not funny but sexual jokes get boring after awhile. One funny joke was about his penis being like a dog and wanting to be let out. That had me and the audience laughing along with it. Overall the night was a blast and I look forward to winning more tickets so I can take my friends out to another comedy show.
