Father’s Day Crafts – Footprint Poem Frame

Dad’s are very special people in our lives. We are always trying to make dad proud of us. This is why finding a unique gift for dad on Father’s Day can sometimes be a challenge. We want to choose a gift that dad will cherish forever, as well as touch his heart. Purchasing a gift at the store is not quite the same as creating a gift with your own two hands. Your dad will love that you took the time to consider an unforgettable gift for him that you put together yourself. Such a gift that I have made for my own father is a Footprint Poem Frame. This is a heart-felt craft that you can create at home for your own dad. Creating a Footprint Poem Frame for your dad on Father’s Day is simple and will show your dad, just how much you care.

For this easy Father’s Day craft, you will need to gather a few materials. These materials include craft paper, a computer with a connected printer, scissors and a pen. Be sure that your printer has ink. You can either use colored ink for this project, or just black if you prefer.

How to Make a Footprint Poem Frame

Step 1:
To begin, you will need to bring up a word processing program on your computer. This can be any word processing software such as Microsoft Word or Wordpad. Set your margins to 3 inches on the top and on the bottom of the page. Use a font between 12 and 14 in size so that your dad can easily read the text. Choose whichever font that you prefer that is easy to read. Center the writing into the middle of the page. Now, you will need to type this Father’s Day Poem, or any other poem that you would to give your dad.

Footprints Poem

“Walk a little slower daddy,” said a child so small.
“I’m following in your footsteps and I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I’m all grown up,
You’re what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who’ll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you.” -Author Unknown

Step 2:
Next, you will need to print out the poem. Print the poem out on a piece of construction paper on the color of your choice. If you decide to use a dark colored piece of construction paper, use a light colored font, and vise-versa. Once your poem is printed out, be sure that is it easy to read and the font is large enough for your dad to see clearly.

Step 3:
Next, choose another piece of construction paper that is a different color from the first. Cut a 2 inch strip for both the top, and the bottom of the poem paper. Glue the strips into place.

Step 4:
Choose 2 more different colors of construction paper. With these pieces, draw and cut out small foot prints. You will need about 6 of each color. Once you have all of the footprints cut out, put them across the top and bottom strips of paper on your poem paper. Interchange the color of foot prints. (ex. blue footprint, red footprint, blue footprint, etc.) Make them appear as if someone is walking across the sheet of paper.
