Eva Longoria: All About the Desperate Housewives Star

Eva Longoria’s name has been one of the hottest Google search terms in recent months. The Desperate Housewives star made headlines earlier this year with a purported sex tape later declared a hoax. The Google-ability of the phrase “Eva Longoria sex tape” was so hot that it made Google’s top 10 search term list. The “controversy” could be seen as just a publicity speed bump for Longoria, who made several badly-received film attempts before hitting a major role with Michael Douglas in The Sentinel. In spite of the early failure of her roles in Carlita’s Secret and Senorita Justice, Longoria has her sights set on the silver screen.

Long before the Eva Longoria sex tape scandal, she was busy with college, and competing for pageants and contests. She won Miss Corpus Christi 1998, then entered a talent contest in Los Angeles and landed an agent shortly after. Two years later Longoria found herself landing her first television role in Beverly Hills 90210. After her TV debut in the year 2000, she did a turn as a regular on General Hospital that lasted until 2003, the same year People Magazine named Longoria on its list of Most Beautiful People for ’03.

Just a year later and Longoria scored the role people call an “overnight success” on Desperate Housewives. She had been grooming her career for nearly ten years at that point, but the Housewives role is what catapulted her to A-list fame, bringing her to the cover the Maxim Magazine and other popular Men’s journals. Longoria branched out into the music industry in 2006, appearing in a Jessica Simpson video with Christina Applegate.

In November of 2007, Longoria announced she wanted to quit Desperate Housewives and start a family with NBA husband Tony Parker (of the San Antonio Spurs). Longoria has made noises about quitting the show before, but there are conflicting reports. Some sources state all the Desperate Housewives have signed new four-year contracts. Longoria told a San Antonio news station she wanted to have a baby, but her current contract reportedly has a stipulation that requires her to be baby-free for at least one year. Chances are you will see a Longoria-centered baby plot thread beginning in Desperate Housewives sometime between 2008 and 2009.

The 2007 Eva Longoria sex tape scandal–what everyone on Google seemed to want to know in great detail–wasn’t the only controversy in 07. A claim by French model Alexandra Paressant caused Longoria and Tony Parker to make a joint press statement to deny the claims. Paressant is purportedly a scandal chaser, having made similar allegations before. The sex tape scandal could be considered a publicity stunt (speculation only, as no evidence has come to light revealing as much) but the Paressant controversy was definitely an intrusive moment for Longoria and hubby.

The Eva Longoria saga is far from over. She has added “restaurateur” to her resume with the launch of Beso in Los Angeles. Her business partner Todd English was interviewed by Life&Style;, and he was quoted as saying Longoria is a perfectionist with specific designs on the dining crowd at Hollywood and Vine, where the restaurant is located. What does all this mean for Desperate Housewives? Only time will tell, but Longoria definitely seems to be marking time and counting down the days until her most famous television role to date is history.
