In 1990, Terri Schiavo entered a vegetative state after experiencing extreme potassium deficiencies, possibly from an “iced tea diet. Over the next 15 years, the future of her life was debated between her husband and her parents. Her husband wanted to end her life, saying there was no hope for recovery, using doctors’ statements as backup. Terri’s parents, however, said there was hope, basing it off of moments that Terri seemed to display some comprehension. After a long battle, Terri’s husband won and she was taken off of her feeding tube. She died thirteen days later, on March 31, 2005, of dehydration.
