One fall trend that almost did not see the light of day got a last minute reprieve from Mrs. Sean Carter. The tuxedo trend from the fall 2011 runways last February/March was not high-profile until Beyonce’s “Love on Top” video and her baby bump debut at the VMA’s brought the trend into the spotlight. Check out four tuxedo style trends to try out this fall and winter.
The Tuxedo Pant Suit
The tuxedos Beyonce wore in her “Love on Top” video and at the MTV VMAs were on the flashy side. For offstage wear, a little less flash may be what you prefer. If so, the classic styling of the Albert Nipon Tuxedo Pantsuit for $280.00 at Neiman Marcus may be up your alley. This black tuxedo features the standard satin notched collar and creased front pants, with a slight flare in the leg. If you want to go bolder, then try the Tuxedo Pantsuit for $49.99 at MetroStyle in yellow or white.
The Tuxedo Jacket
The tuxedo jacket is the most stylish part of the suit. This may be why different feminine versions of it are sold. A trendy-looking tuxedo jacket to try is Next Women’s Sleeve Tuxedo Jacket – Grey for $47.00 at Sears. This jacket falls at the high hip and can be worn with your basic T-shirt and jeans for a contemporary look.
The Tuxedo Shirt
Most women’s tuxedo pantsuits do not include the tuxedo shirt. This masculine shirt with ruffles — seems almost oxymoronic — is often worn without a jacket. The tuxedo shirt looks stylish on virtually all sizes like this Tuxedo Ruffle Long Sleeve Shirt for $54.95 at Lane Bryant. Wear with a pair of trousers, with jeans or a pencil skirt for a trendy look.
Tuxedo Pant
The tuxedo pant works well both with the suit and outside of it. There are different versions of this pant outside of the creased front trouser leg. Some versions of the pant take style details from the tuxedo pant such as Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Sequin Tuxedo Strip Stretch Jeans for $130.00 at Nordstrom. Pair with the tuxedo shirt or a tuxedo jacket and turtleneck top for a trendy, casual look.
These four tuxedo trend styles are very stylish and keep you looking like a woman. Which style do you prefer — the whole suit or part of the suit? Let us know in the comments below and the ways you plan to mix and match the suit elements.
