Top Winter Activities in Southern California

The phrase, everyday is a good day in California, was probably coined for Southern California. It is unquestionably one of the most mild climates in the United States. In terms of diversity, there are beaches, deserts, mountains and cities all within a 400 miles range. It is the absolute perfect place to live and vacation in the United States. In terms of culture you will find every continent represented. It is the melting pot in the true sense of the word.

Southern California architecture is rich in old Spanish style haciendas, German Tudor and visits to the cities of Anaheim, Pasadena and Fullerton will provide you with its traditions. The cities of Malibu, Santa Monica, Laguna Beach, Del Mar and Corona del Mar have magnificent new structures and bungalow beach houses decorated with beauty and abundant flowers. Southern California has the longest and most diverse growing season in the lower 48.

If you are looking for stark beauty you can visit the various desert communities in Southern California. Surrounding the resort cities of Palm Springs and Cathedral City and the vast areas of the Inland Empire, and San Bernardino are adorned with cactus and desert flowers that spring up everywhere.

In the mountain communities of Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake the winters are a child’s paradise of snow activities. From sledding to making snow men and a visit to Santa’s Village. These locations are a mere two and a half hours away from Orange County. If you want some serious skiing and snow boarding, then you can book a vacation and ski package at Mammoth. It is approximately 375 miles from Los Angeles. Mammoth is located on the eastern edge of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountain range. It has state of the art lifts and ski hills everyone can enjoy. Sure there is Winter in Southern California, but that means some rain and over cast days, not frigid temperatures.

Mammoth Lodge and Ski Package:

The January Mid Week Madness provides a great savings. This package includes lodging at Mammoth Mountain Inn, Village Lodging, Juniper Spring Resorts, and the Tamarack Lodge Resort. The lodging package is available for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It also includes lift tickets for the length of your stay. The price is amazingly low starting at $113 per person. There is a two day minimum stay. The lodges are excellent and the food is great.

Another winter package offered by Mammoth Lodge is the Lift and Lodging Package. There is a minimum stay of three days. You have your selection of lodge as with the Mid Week Madness Package, but the package is good throughout the Winter. As an example I looked into a reservation for two adult and two teenager for three days from February 3 through 6, 2007. The Mammoth Mountain Inn would cost only $867. for the entire stay which includes lift tickets for everyone and a luxury room with a loft. It comfortably sleeps four adults. There are even better values at the other lodges. You can call for information by phoning 800. Mammoth or book your reservation at mammothmountain.com.

Indian Wells, California Vacation Packages:

Indian Wells is a short drive from Palm Springs, but has some great values in resorts. Palm Spring’s tourist season is the Winter so some of the rates may be a little higher and their availability limited. The entire Palm Spring, Cathedral City and Indian Wells area is great for healthy winter fun. If you have ever had a lingering cold or upper respiratory infection, this is the place to get rid of it. The dry and clear air will fix you right up.

Disneyland ‘s Ramada Maingate, At the Park:

This location is ideal because it is across the street from Disneyland’s main gate. The hotel is new and the rooms are over sized for families. There is a huge heated pool and a continental breakfast is included. For a mini Queen suite that will accommodate four people the price is under $500 for four night lodging in early February.

The convenience of being close to all of the attractions in the area is a great feature of the hotel. It is located at 1650 N. Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim. If you book through Orbitz on line you will get the better rates for your package. I can recommend the service and the location for people with children.
