Top Ten Movie and Television Kisses of All Time

When you watch a movie or television show, what do you watch it for? Do you watch it for the action? For the plot? Or, are you a true romantic at heart?

I have to admit, I like movies for lots of different reasons. But, when you get right down to it, a great kiss can make a movie unforgettable. The kiss can’t just be any kiss, though, it has to be special. When you watch, it has to suspend your disbelief. This means you have to believe that it’s really a true kiss, instead of just one in a movie. The kiss has to make you feel like you are there and part of it. It has to have a WOW factor.

I have watched many movies over the years, and have searched for the greatest kisses. Now, don’t think I was just looking solely for these years just for kisses- I actually also looked for good plots. But, there is a fascination with the movie kiss, especially when it’s just right between two people. I have compiled my top ten movie and television kisses. See if you agree…

1. Eric Bana and Ayelet Zurer, as Avner and Daphna, in Munich (2005). There is an intimate scene in this movie where the main character, ___ and his pregnant wife are making out, before he leaves for his assignment. The two kiss in this scene, and it to me is the most passionate kiss I have ever witnessed in a movie. It is unforgettable. Whenever I think of the best movie kiss of all times, this is the one I would pick. I would watch this movie just to see the kiss again. It was so believable, so intimate, so real. I wouldn’t have known it was really just a movie.

2. George Hamilton and Susan Saint James as Count Dracula and Cindy Soundheim in Love at First Bite (1979). You may never have heard of this movie. It came out decades ago. But it holds a special place in my heart because it was perhaps the first movie kiss I ever saw as a child. I was on vacation, visiting Shenendoah Acres Resort in Virginia, and we decided to go to the movies one night. I was about eight or nine years old. The movie is about vampires, and was also about a vampire and a woman falling in love. At one point in the movie, the vampire is about to bite the woman’s neck, to turn her into one of his own. Even though I was very young, I still understood that grownups kiss to show affection. So, I screamed throughout the whole theatre, “You’re not supposed to bite her, you’re supposed to kiss her!” Everyone in the audience thought it was cute, and laughed. Check out this kiss, nonetheless.

3. Evangeline Lilly and Josh Holloway as Kate and Sawyer in Lost. Kate and Sawyer’s first kiss is great. Kate’s really doing it to get something out of Sawyer that she wants. But then, when they’re in the cage, and she thinks he is going to be killed, this time I think she really means it. Both of them are hot, so you pick which one.

4. Alan Alda and Loretta Swit as Hawkeye and Major Houlihan in Mash. The two have a steamy relationship, all throughout the series of Mash. However, things really heat up in season 6, during the Comrades in Arms episodes. Hawkeye and Margaret are on a mission, and when they hear gunfire, they seek refuge in a hut. While they are waiting to be found or to acquire safety, the kiss happens (and maybe more.) The final episode of the series also gifts us a kiss between the unlikely pair. This one to me is a little less intimate.

5. Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe as Nathaniel Poe and Cora Munro in Last of the Mohicans (1992). This movie was actually a favorite of mine for many years. I went to see it at least four times at the theatre alone! The passion between these two was incredible. It was raw, and real. It is worth watching the movie just to see the two of them kiss. This kiss occurs when they are at Fort William Henry. It is night, and the two come together and walk to a private area. The kiss starts quietly, but becomes more pronounced. The suspension of disbelief is incredible.

6. Leonardo DiCapprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose Dewitt Bukater in Titanic (1997). The first kiss happens when they are in Rose’s quarters, right before she asks him to draw her in the nude. Well, actually the first kiss happens when they are on the front of the ship, when Rose comes to find Jack and tell him she changed her mind- that she wants to be with him. But, this isn’t nearly as passionate as the next one.

7. Michael Douglas as Nick Curran and Sharon Stone as Catherine, in Basic Instinct (1992). I don’t know that there’s just one best kiss between the two of them in this movie. The whole movie evokes sensuality. There was one kissing scene I especially enjoyed, when Nick followed Catherine to the dance club, and kissed her right in the middle of the dance floor.

8. Sherilyn Fenn as April Delongpre and Richard Tyson as Perry in Two Moon Junction (1988). We go back to the 80’s to retrieve this movie. Do you remember it? It wasn’ t as popular as some of the other movies, but it was passionate if you were able to catch it. If not, go back and rent it. The whole theme is a good girl who finds a bad guy and of course, with this mix, there will always be heated kisses.

9. Rob Lowe and Demi Moore as Danny and Debbie in About Last Night (1986). Sticking with the 80’s, we return to a movie that is my favorite movie of all time. I think I practically have the whole thing memorized. I went to see it with a friend when I was a sophomore in highschool, right after we got our licenses. Anyway, watch the scene at the beginning when Danny takes Debbie to his bachelor pad, and pulls out the “double headphones.”

10. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConnaughey as Andie and Ben in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days (2003). The great kiss occurs when they go to Ben’s family’s home for the weekend, and end up somehow in the bathroom together. This is the point at which Andie realizes she is falling for Ben, and vice versa.

Sorry, Mom, Gone with the Wind just didn’t make the cut this time!
