The Quiet Place, Cozy Getaway Cabins in the Finger Lakes

My partner and I honeymooned at the Bloomfield Cabin of The Quiet Place in early October, located near Canandaigua Lake in Upstate New York. We’re fond of log cabins, and the small (but not too small) Bloomfield appealed to our longing for someplace private, quiet, and nestled in the woods, the perfect getaway to complement our wedding dream.

The moment we stepped through the door of the Bloomfield Cabin, we felt welcome, safe, at home. There was music playing, soft ambient piano music, and we explored the rooms, admiring the careful decorating, the rustic yet elegant furnishings, the utterly inviting quilted bed.

There are four rooms altogether. The deep green kitchen is of a nice size and fully equipped, and the cupboards are stocked with essentials such as oatmeal and tea. Hidden in one of the cabinets, we found a basketful of fresh pastries for us to enjoy at breakfast.

The living room is enhanced with a whimsical bear motif, as bears have been spotted in the Finger Lakes vicinity from time to time. There is a large carved bear near the fireplace, and bear paintings adorn the walls. The furniture is sturdy, completely comfortable. Books on a wide range of topics — poetry, fairy tales, spirituality, fiction — fill the set of built-in shelves, and there are plenty of local travel magazines and maps to peruse. The television is discreetly hidden within an attractive armoire, along with several VHS movies. We watched a copy of “Four Weddings and a Funeral” during our stay.

The bathroom is small but clean and pretty. The real star of the cabin is the bedroom area, which boasts not only a wonderful bed but also — beneath an enormous picture window looking out onto a wall of majestic pines — a hot tub for two with gorgeous tiling, decorated with candles and lush potted greenery. It’s romance personified.

The music we heard emanated from a small cupboard in the hallway, where there was a stereo setup with speakers positioned throughout the house. A vast collection of CDs were at our disposal, but we chose to allow the current one to keep playing, and it became the soundtrack to our honeymoon. We purchased a copy of the CD weeks later, and whenever we listen to it, it takes us back to the cozy wonder of Bloomfield.

Though we wouldn’t have minded spending all of our time in the cabin, we did wander out for dinner and explored the surrounding area a bit, which offers, among other things, antique shopping and a pottery wonderland called Wizard of Clay. We also spent quite a bit of time admiring the beauty of Canandaigua Lake as the sun set over the water.

If you are planning to visit the Finger Lakes area for any reason, you would not regret passing a night or two with The Quiet Place. Bloomfield Cabin is most suitable for two people, but there five larger cabins, as well, each in possession of its own unique charms. The proprietors of the cabins were so incredibly kind to us, and they welcome same-sex couples (such as ourselves) with open arms. We even received a Christmas card in the mail from them last year! My partner and I plan to make many future weekend trips to Bloomfield.
