Review of Take Me Away Aromatherapy Alarm Clock from Avon

I have a hard time getting up in the morning. Once up, I have a hard time adjusting to being awake. Then at night it’s hard to switch gears and fall asleep. The Take Me Away Alarm Clock makes it all a little easier to deal with.

This product has 6 different relaxing sound effects, an aromatherapy fan, and a light-up screen with your choice of 2 soothing images. The clock itself is six inches wide, three inches high, and three inches deep. Its exterior is silver and it has a curved front and back. It is a nice size that doesn’t take up too much space on your bedside table.

The sounds you can pick from are: rain forest, sea birds, wind chimes, ocean waves, summer night, and moving stream. These sound effects make pleasant background noise that creates a spa-like environment. Ocean waves and moving stream are my favorites. These both are very relaxing and sound surprisingly realistic. Sea birds are my third favorite – the sound of gulls with waves in the background. Wind chimes and summer night are my least favorite. Wind chimes is the sound of wind blowing with two repetitive chime sounds. I wish there were more variation in the notes and less wind, which simply makes me think of being cold. Summer night is the sound of a cricket chirping repeatedly, and doesn’t sound realistic. On the side there is a dial which controls the volume, and another which can be used to tune in a radio station, should you choose to subject yourself to that.

There is also a switch which allows you to listen to sound effects or the radio for a period of fifteen minutes, thirty minutes, or continuously. This is nice to fall asleep to. The screen that displays the time is not lit up in the dark, but there is a button on top of the clock which lights up the time as you press on it. This is nice in that you don’t wake up in the middle of the night to a glaring announcement of how late it really is, causing you to lose more sleep subtracting how many hours are left before you must become a productive member of society.

For your alarm, you can choose from one of these sounds, a beeping tone, or the radio. I wake up to either ocean waves of moving stream, as beeping is no way to coax myself out of bed and the radio is seldom better, if not worse.

This clock can be plugged in and also takes 3 AAA batteries.

The light-up screen is on the right side of the clock and is about 2.5 inches square. You can press a button to light it up or turn it off. The images are on sleeves which you place in a slot on top of the clock. The scenes are tropical: one of a beach and a blue sky, and one of a beach with an orange glowing sunset.

The Take Me Away Alarm Clock comes with a small white disc and a 5 mL bottle of vanilla fragrance oil. The fragrance itself is lovely, not artificial-smelling like some vanilla fragrances. The back of the clock has a tray that slides out, where you place the disc with drops of fragrance oil on it. A button on the front of the clock turns on a fan that circulates fragrance. This tray was very difficult to open.

This clock sells for $29.99 in the Avon catalog. I have seen similar products at much higher prices, and was happy to have this item for less than $40.
