Maintaining a Low-Carbohydrate Diet When Eating at Red Lobster

Red Lobster is a chain of sea food restaurants in the United States. I am pretty sure most people would know that, and I certainly haven’t met one person that did know it and did not appreciate the food on their menus. Now that we have established that their food tastes great, we have to think about how someone could eat healthy in a place like this. I am a big fan of the low-carbohydrate diet myself so the purpose of this article is to explain how one could possibly eat low-carbohydrate in a place like this.

I would say the hardest part of pulling this off would probably be every low-carbohydrate dieters worst nightmare, the dreaded Cheddar Bay biscuits. These biscuits are probably one of the best foods I have ever eaten at any restaurant, they are biscuits baked with cheese in them and brushed with a garlicky butter sauce afterwards. I know quite a few fans of the Cheddar Bay biscuits and they can be pretty hard to resist.The best way to get around these all together is to ask the wait staff just to not bring you any, however if you are with family or friends then they might not agree with your decision. If this is the case I’d say you just have to get out your will power and give it everything you have. I did it so I’m positive you can too. It would make things a lot easier if you got your own appetizer to enjoy while everyone had their bread. The best would probably be the chilled shrimp cocktail, but I would steer clear of the cocktail sauce of course, and you can’t forget the salad with petite shrimp it tastes great!

Now comes the easy part, the main course. Red Lobster has tons of great low-carbohydrate dishes, that are not only great for the diet but taste awesome as well. A really good choice would be the Ultimate Feast, it includes lobster tail, steamed snow crab legs, shrimp scampi and shrimp, just make sure to tell them you want the extra shrimp with no breading. My favorite is the shrimp scampi, but I think some places put a bit of flour in the sauce so make sure you ask for it without flour. You can also get the grilled salmon, garlic grilled shrimp, or grilled fish. The grilled chicken breast is great as well. When choosing a side, try and pick something such as the broccoli or asparagus. You can eat quite a few things on the menu but you should always ask questions about the ingredients of your food if you feel like you need to. They should have no problem cooking it how you need them too. When you decide what to order, order it grilled or broiled, and steer clear of breading. There are tons of options with crab and lobster as well, I think lobster has a few carbs but not very many. When I went I had glass after glass of tea sweetened with Splenda, the shrimp scampi, and a side of broccoli. When I was done with the shrimp I dipped the broccoli in the garlic and butter sauce and it made it taste even better! Unfortunately there aren’t any low-carb alternatives to dessert at Red Lobster so once again, like the biscuits you are going to have to try hard and give it all you have not to cheat on your diet just for a few minutes of sugar and carbs, because it is definitely not worth it!

As you can see it is very possible to eat low carb at Red Lobster, it might take a lot of will power but it will be worth it in the end. Once you have gotten through your meal and ate the right foods you will feel so much better about yourself. I know I did!
