How to Throw a Crayon Themed Birthday Party

Children love crayons and a crayon themed birthday party will definitely be filled with lots of crayons and colors. Most little kids love playing with and using crayons, so why shouldn’t they have a crayon themed birthday party! Start with the invitations. There are tons of crayon clip art that you can choose from to make the invitations. Simply choose a crayon clip art from the internet, write the party information in and print it out on card stock. It’s incredibly easy to do and it’s inexpensive.

The cake is a little trickier. You can make the cake to look like a single crayon, multiple crayons, or a box of crayons. It all depends on how much time you want to spend doing the cake. For the candles you can use crayon shaped candles.

For snacks, you can have the basic types of snacks but make it colorful- think M&M;’s and fruit ice pops or Italian ice. Consider using Pepperidge Farm Pirouette’sÒ and dipping it in candy melts so that they give the impression of crayons. Pirouette’sÒ are long, thin, cylinder shaped cookies that you can break in half and dip in the candy melts. Candy melts are what is used in candy making and they come in various colors.

For the plates, cups, and napkins you have two options. You can purchase them in bright colors or you can purchase them with pictures of crayons on them.

Balloons can be found with pictures of crayons on them or actually in the shape of crayons. If you are unable to find these, you can always just use bright colored balloons instead. Bright and multi-colored streamers will also be a great decoration. You can also get a giant inflatable crayon to tie to the outside of your house so people know where the party is.

For party favors you can make simple goody bags that include small boxes of crayons. In addition to the crayons you can purchase some containers of bubbles that are in the shape of crayons and crayon shaped erasers. For a little snack to take home, throw in your choice of brightly colored candy. Coloring books can be purchased at your local dollar store so the kids have something to color with their new crayons when they go home.

When I was a kid I loved going to parties and taking a chance to knock down the piñata. Pinatas.com currently carries an adorable crayon box piñata that you can fill with lots of goodies.

To keep the kids during the party you can try some of these options:

Get a giant roll of plain white paper. Have each kid lie down on a sheet of paper that is their height and have someone trace them. After the child is traced, they have a outline of their body and they can color themselves in the way that they would like. It’s an adorable self portrait that they can take home and hang in their room.

Print out blank coloring pages from the internet and let the kids color as many as they want.

Let the kids design picture frames. There are plain, wood picture frames sold in craft stores. Buy a bulk supply of crayons, have a few bottles of glue and let the kids glue crayons onto the picture frame in whatever design they choose. You can even take a picture with a digital camera of the guest with the birthday boy or girl when they walk in and during the party print out the pictures. The guests can go home at the end of the day with a photo of themselves with their friend in their brand new crayon covered picture frames that they made.
