How to Make a Pillow for Your Bathtub Out of an Old Bathrobe

These simple Bathtub Pillows are the perfect way to transform an everyday Bathrobe into a soft pillow you can use while you are lounging in a relaxing bath. One bathrobe will make quite a few bathtub pillows, so make a few extras as gifts for family and friends.

This simple Bathtub Pillow is the perfect craft for parents to make with their kids.

Don’t think you have to sew to make these Bathtub Pillows. You can use no sew and self adhering Velcro if the idea of the sewing machine scares you.

To make this easy Bathtub Pillow craft project you will need:

1 Bathrobe

Self adhering Velcro

Scissors

No Sew

Fabric puff paint (optional)

Fabric paint (optional)

Pillow insert (sewn in plastic waterproof material)

To start your Bathrobe Bathtub Pillow you will need to decide what size pillow insert you are going to use. You can buy new water proof pillow inserts or simply recover an existing pillow with plastic waterproof material.

Now, to make the basic pillow form I am using Bathrobe material. You could also use a towel for this bathtub pillow.

Lay your Bathrobe fabric on a flat large surface; a dining room table or kitchen counter works well.

Trace out your pillow insert shape on the bathrobe. Leave at least 2 inches around the shape of your pillow.

You will need two pieces of this red fabric. Leave one piece of bathrobe fabric whole. Cut the other in half exactly. If your pillow is square this will be simple. If your pillow is rectangle, cut your 2nd piece of bathrobe in half horizontally equidistant from top to bottom.

To assemble the bathtub pillow lay your front bathrobe panel face up. Outline the edge with no sew or fabric glue. Lay you back panels on top of the front panel. If you are using fabric glue, press the panels together and let this dry. If you are using No Sew then you are ready to iron the pillow together.

Turn your bathrobe bathtub pillow inside out once it has dried or your No Sew has cooled off. You can easily insert your waterproof pillow through the center opening in the back.

Always wash your bathrobe fabric before making anything out of it. This will allow your fabric to go ahead and shrink before your cut it out. While all fabric won’t shrink. Some will; so don’t risk it.

Now, you need to sew one or two suction cups on the back of the bathtub pillow. This will allow you to place your bathtub pillows wherever you want in the tub and have them stay in place. You can find these suction cups at almost ant arts and craft store. I buy shower scrunchies with them all the time. You could simply cut them off of a shower scrunchy you are about to throw away and reuse it. If you are making this bathtub pillow as a gift you may want to buy new suction cups.
