How to Fill in Overplucked Eyebrows

We’ve all done it:overplucked our brows, and then were immediately sorry. So once you’ve done the damage with tweezers or by waxing, how should you go about filling in your sparse brows? I’ll review my top 5 favorite products for hardly there brows.

Eyebrow Pencil
Probably the most well-known way to fill in brows, is an eyebrow pencil. There are many different brands from which to choose, as well as many different colors. The key to making brows look natural is to find a color that exactly matches your brow. Going a shade too dark or too light is a dead giveway that your brows have been drawn in. If you can’t find an eyebrow pencil in the exact shade of your brows, try an eyeliner. Both products are relatively the same consistency, although eyeliner may not last as long. I recommend trying Wet n Wild’s Arch Envy pencil (www.wetnwild.com). This double sided pencil features a pencil on one end, to color brows, and a wax pencil on the other, which, when applied over brows, holds the color in place. It sets the color and holds it in place for a while. I give this combination of pencil and wax top marks!

Eye shadow filler
Similar to pencil, a matte eye shadow can also be used to help fill in sparse brows. For some, it may be easier to find a matching shade of eye shadow because they come in a greater variety of colors. Using an angled eye shadow brush, apply shadow to brows in short strokes until you achieve the desired look. I recommend using matte shadows from Smashbox (www.smashbox.com), such as “etch.” This chocolate brown shade will work well with many brown toned eyebrows.

Revlon’s Brow Fantasy
For filling in brows, especially those that are overplucked and may have gaps, Revlon’s Brow Fantasy (www.revlon.com) takes the cake. This is, by far, the best eyebrow pencil/gel combination I have ever used. I have black eyebrows and have rarely been able to find anything that matches my brows and still looks natural, but Revlon Brow Fantasy works fabulously. Side 1 is a brow ‘crayon’ which features a slightly harder consistency then a regular eyeliner or eyebrow pencil. When applied in short strokes it looks very natural, even on the skin. Side 2 features a brow gel that helps to set both the color and remainder of the brow in place. Even without using the gel, the eyebrow crayon provides lasting results that do not smear as easily as other products I have seen.

Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator
If you’re interested in actually growing back eyebrows, or even eyelashes that may have been overplucked or were just scarce in the first place, I recommend trying Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator. This product is a gel that is applied to the brows and/or eyelashes at night before bed. The complex contains proteins that stimulate hair growth and claim to make hair and lashes grow faster. I have personally seen good results with this product, and it is a very cheap alternative to other brow and lash growth formulas currently on the market.

CoverGirl Professional Mascara in clear
While growing back brows, one way to help keep the look clean is to keep the rest of your brows tidy. A great way to keep brow hair in place during the day is by using a clear mascara, such as CoverGirl Professional Mascara (www.covergirl.com). The mascara comes in a tube, just like regular mascara, and can be applied using the wand to brows or eye lashes. Furthermore, the product is a great buy because it is cheap and also lasts for a long time.
