Homemade Beauty Recipes to Turn Dull Hair into Shiny, Beautiful Hair

We all want beautiful hair, but sometimes products we use can take a toll on the health of our hair. Some of these hair-damaging items include curling irons, blow dryers, dyes, bleaches, and even hair sprays. Fortunately, there are many products in our kitchens that do a fabulous job of repairing dull, damaged hair. I’ve tried all of the beauty recipes below and have been thrilled with how well they work!

Olive Oil:

Chances are you’ve heard of hot oil treatments being used to deeply condition dry hair. You can make your own hot oil treatment and it’s simple! Pour approximately ½ cup of olive oil into a cup and microwave until warm. Be careful not to make it hot. Apply the warm olive oil to your scalp and hair and gently massage in thoroughly. It can be used on wet or dry hair. Apply a shower cap. Leave the olive oil on for approximately 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Shampoo well to remove all traces of the olive oil from your hair.

Bananas:

Bananas are great for our scalp and hair because they contain potassium, natural oils, and vitamins. Just mash an overly ripe banana until it has a smooth and creamy consistency. Apply it to wet or dry hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes then rinse thoroughly, running a wide-toothed comb through your hair to help remove the banana. Then shampoo thoroughly. Please note, if any of the banana gets on your face during the application process, it’s okay because bananas are also a great skin moisturizer. There have been times when I’ve applied a banana to my hair and face simultaneously. It smells so good and the results are fantastic for both hair and face. Just make sure to rinse it off thoroughly.

Mayonnaise:

Mayonnaise contains eggs, vinegar, and vegetable oil which are all good for restoring moisture in hair. Apply a generous amount of mayonnaise to wet or dry hair. Use full fat mayonnaise as the oils will help to moisturize your hair and add shine. Cover with a shower cap, leave on for approximately 30 minutes, then rinse off. Shampoo very well to make sure all of the mayo is out of your hair, otherwise you’ll smell like a salad and your hair will look wet.

Olive Oil and Banana and Mayonnaise

Combine the 3 ingredients above for the trifecta of hair repair recipes! Mix 1 overly ripe banana with 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Apply to wet or dry scalp and cover with a shower cap. Leave on for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse very well, then shampoo.

Tip: If you don’t have a shower cap, you can use a plastic shopping bag by tying it or clipping it in the front. It works just as well.

These homemade beauty recipes for shiny hair are made from all-natural ingredients; no dyes, no chemicals. And none of them are harmful if swallowed. So treat your hair, save some money, and enjoy your beautiful hair!
