Hammond’s Candy Factory in Denver

Hammonds Candy Factory

Hammond’s Candy Factory is one of the few places in Denver you can visit for free. You are able to take a factory tour of how the candy is made and visit the gift shop for some yummy treats. If you are lucky, there will be some discounted bulk candy you can buy.

The History

Hammond’s Candy Factory started in 1920 by Carl T. Hammond Sr. with the first factory located along the Platte River, near where the R.E.I. building is today. The factory moved to North Denver in 1948. Carl Sr. retired in 1980 and left the management of the company to his son and daughter-in-law. While there are no family members currently working at the factory, the factory does employ several workers who started in the 1980’s.

The factory moved to Colorado Blvd. in 1999 to a much larger building. The new building allowed for Hammond’s Candy to begin factory tours and to increase production. Just five short years later, in 2004, the factory had outgrown the building again and moved to its current location on Washington Street.
