Fats Domino.

Famous musician. Born on February 26, 1928, in New Orleans, Louisiana. This early rock ‘n’ roll singer is perhaps best known for singing “Blueberry Hill”. His real name being Antoine “Fats” Domino. He recorded dozens of top-40 hits between 1950-1956, including feel-good rock song classics like “Ain’t That A Shame.” He grew up in New Orleans, and began playing piano and signing when he was only a child. He became famous after Pat Boone covered his song, making him a national celebrity. He performed until the 80s, eventually retiring and settling into his hometown. This is the man who ushered in the full-fledged rock sound, the one and only Fats Domino.

Harry Connick Jr.

This musician and actor was born September 11, 1967. He was also a child prodigy in his birthplace of New Orleans. He played piano in French Quarter clubs before becoming famous. Connick later composed the score to the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally, and later turned to acting himself. His father is the longtime District Attorney in New Orleans. His birth name was actually Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. He married Jill Goodacre in 1994. He is perhaps best known as a Jazz heartthrob, and Independence Day actor. The now famous talk show host got her start doing standup comedy in New Orleans before going to Hollywood in 1986. Her television sitcom Ellen premiered in 1994, on ABC. An episode in 1997 featured her character, Ellen Morgan, announcing “I’m gay.” At the very same time she announced her love for her girlfriend, Anne Heche. They broke up in 2000. Ellen then restarted her stand-up career with concert tours and television specials. She also had a key voice role in Finding Nemo in 2003. Her show The Ellen Degeneres Show started in 2003, which is still having a very successful run. Ellen began dating Portia de Rossi in 2005; they were married on August 16, 2008, after the California Supreme Court overturned a state ban on gay marriages. The record company executive and American Idol judge, was born in Baton Rouge, on June 23, 1956. He was a temporary bass player for Journey in 1983 and 1986. He also spent many years as an executive with Columbia Records and MCA Records. Since 2002, he has been on American Idol, where he is famous for his slang term “dawg.” He had gastric bypass surgery in 2003, and by the beginning of the 2004 season he had lost more than 100 pounds. Her parent’s marriage lasted only a few years. Dorothy was a teenager when the divorce took place. Her mother remarried to Clarence Lamour, and Dorothy took his last name. She became very wealthy from her film career. She also won the 1931 Miss New Orleans beauty contest. Soon after she moved to Chicago, taking her mother with her, where she earned $17 dollars a week as an elevator operator for the department store Marshall Field. She sang at nightclubs and cabaret clubs and on radio-shows. She appeared in films such as Ulah, The Jungle Princess, Road to Morocco, Road to Bali, The Hurricane, Spawn of the North, Disputed Passage, Johnny Apollo, Aloma of the South Seas, Beyond the Blue Horizon, Dixie, A Medal for Benny, My Favorite Brunette, On Our Merry Way, and The Greatest Show on Earth. Her leading men including men of legend like Tyrone Power, Ray Milland, Jack Benny, William Holden, George Raft, Henry Fonda, and Fred MacMurray. She was best known as a glamour girl. She published her autobiography My Side of the Road in 1980. She died at her home in North Hollywood, California, at the age of 81, from a heart attack. She was laid to rest in the Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills Cemetary in Los Angeles, California.

The famous singer and pianist was born September 29, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He was famous for his rock and roll and country rockabilly music. He was also a singer and songwriter. The famous novelist, was born October 4, 1941, in New Orleans. Her novel Interview With The Vampire, was published in 1976. In the same decade this book became the best-known vampire novel since Dracula. She has a huge fan base full of devoted fans. She has also published novels under the pen names A.N. Roquelaure, and Anne Rampling. She has many published novels. In 1998 she abandoned the dark subjects that had previously made her famous, due to the awakening of her Catholic religion. She also wrote a tale about Jesus as a boy, the book was titled Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. She is still a famous resident of New Orleans.

The famous pop-singer with the much publicized life, was born in Kentwood. She was just 17 years old when she had her first #1 hit. Her first album debuted in 1999. She has two children with Kevin Federline. She was cast in the Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Lee Harvey Oswald.

He was born in New Orleans, on October 18, 1939. He was accused of assassinating President John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963. He was a drifter with a cloudy past. He had also been dishonorably discharged from the United States Marines and then defected to Russia in 1959. He was refused citizenship in Russia, and was then sent back to the States. He was never tried in the J.F.K. killing. Lee Harvey Oswald, was shot to death at the Dallas Police Headquarters by nightclub owner Jack Ruby, on the 24th of December in 1963. He was only 24.

Louis Armstrong.

Was born in New Orleans. He is the most famous jazz trumpter of the 20th century. He began playing in New Orleans clubs and saloons in his early teen years. By the 1920s he was already touring the country and leading his own band, the Hot Five, who later became the Hot Seven. He toured and recorded music throughout his life. He even appeared in movies like High Society in 1956, with his good friend Bing Crosby, and starlet Grace Kelly. He also appeared in Hello, Dolly! in 1969 with Barbara Steisand. The theme song for Hello, Dolly!, became his most widely-known recording. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The city of New Orleans renamed its airport as the Louis Armstrong International Airport, in 2001.

Truman Capote.

Born in New Orleans, on September 30, 1924. He died August 25, 1984, at only 59 years old. He was the author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1958, and In Cold Blood in 1966. He was a very successful writer and his flamboyant persona sometimes overshadowed his literary reputation. He had dropped out of school and went to work at The New Yorker, while writing stories for other publications. His first novel was Other Voices, Other Rooms in 1948, and quickly he became a star. He was known for his quick barbed wit. He wrote essays, novels, stories, and screenplays. Some of his works he adapted for television and the stage. His books include The Grass Harp, The Muses Are Heard, and Music For Chameleons. He was also a childhood friend of Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill A Mockingbird; the character Dill is said to have been modeled after Capote.

The famous actress was born in New Orleans, on March 22, 1976. Her birth name is Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon. She won an Academy Award for her work playing June Carter Cash, in the 2005 film Walk the Line. She had already made a big name for herself prior to the award. Her other films include Fear, Freeway, Cruel Intentions, American Psycho, Election, Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Just Like Heaven. She married her co-star in Cruel Intentions and together they had two children. They divorced in 2006. There are sources who inaccurately claim she was born in Tennessee; where her family later lived, but she was born in New Orleans.
