Creative Baby Shower Theme Ideas

Baby shower themes don’t have to be about pink or blue. Get creative and try one of the following themes.

Cute as a Button – Create table runners by gluing buttons onto wide ribbons and laying them width wise across a table or glue buttons on an existing table runner. A cake decorator could easily incorporate buttons into a cake. Or, decorate a round cake to look like a button. For favors, give guests button candy.

Little Pumpkin – Perfect for babies born in the fall. Decorate with real pumpkins in all different sizes and colors. You could also accent tables with fall leaves. Try filling a tall vase with fall branches. Serve pumpkin pie or pumpkin cake. For favors you could fill bags with wax candy pumpkins.

Animal Theme – Are the parents decorating the nursery with puppies or elephants? Use that as your theme. Decorate with stuffed animals. For a monkey theme, you could serve banana bread or cake. For elephants, you could give sacks of peanuts as favors.

If the nursery is to be an aquarium or fish theme, run with this idea! You could have a shower outdoors near a beautiful swimming pool or fountain or even a pond. Decorate tables with white cloths and fish nets. Check out Oriental Trading Company for more decor. Serve fish of course, perhaps sushi. For favors, give guests Swedish Fish candy. Instead of a game, write guests’ names on slips of papers and place them in a fish bowl. Draw names for door prizes such as beach scented candles.

Book Theme – I’ve seen teachers host this shower. Instead of baby clothes and diapers, guests bring a children’s book. For decorations, you could use posters of Mother Goose, Curious George, or blocks and stuffed animals. Stack up a bunch of books and top with a floral arrangement for a centerpiece. As for the food, start with “Humpty Dumpty” deviled eggs. This is a good shower for a mother who is expecting her third or fourth child and maybe doesn’t need a lot of clothes and toys.

Tiny Blessing – Celebrate a tiny blessing! Decorate with tiny hand or foot prints and a cross stamped on a white table cloth. You can also stamp a foot print on paper napkins. Read Psalm 127 or Proverbs 22:6 before saying grace over the refreshments, which should be mini everything. Mini quiches, mini muffins and baby carrots are the perfects foods for this shower theme. You could even have a Mad Hatter Tea Party. Continue with the tiny theme for favors. Give guests tiny bottles of hand sanitizer, travel size lotion, or mini nail files.

Sugar and Spice – The old saying goes, “Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s what little girls are made of.” This is an adorable baby girl shower theme. Decorate with giant lollipops and glass jars full of candy. Have a candy buffet for guests as favors. For the spice part, serve spicy food such as Thai or Mexican. Just make sure the mother-to-be can handle spicy food. Some expectant mother have terrible heart burn.

Sports – A wonderful theme for a baby boy shower, especially if the father is a die hard sports fan. It’s also a good theme if you want to have a couples shower. Serve nachos, hot dogs, popcorn and candy. Check out this Basketball Themed Baby Shower and this Sports Shower Games and Prizes post for more ideas.
