Since I was very young I always had my head in a book. With a Catholic education, my reading list was pretty much the classics and whatever else I could get my hands on at the local library when no one was watching.

That was my first Clifford Irving book and I never looked back. “Fake” is a wonderful ride with an art forger Elmyr de Hory, a Jewish aristocrat who lost everything in WWII except for his ability to imitate Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Renoir, and other great painters of the 20th century. Fernand Legros, a ruthless Egyptian who felt it was fine to bilk museums and collectors in order to finance his hedonistic lifestyle which included using young boys and Real Lessard who was a beautiful Canadian youth who began as Fernand’s protegé and in the end bilked Fernand. The cons were conned and the forger romped throughout most of the worlds major art markets conning everyone along the way.
