5 Best Theaters in Newark, Delaware

As an average movie theater visitor in Newark, Delaware I have visited a lot of different theaters in my time. The following 5 theaters are ones that I have visited in the last 12 months. Here they are in no particular order:

1)Cinema Center 3 F&G;
411 Newark Shopping Center
Newark, DE – (302) 737-3720

This movie theater has been around for a very long time and as such walking into such theater one comes into a sense of nostalgia. Out of all the theaters I will be reviewing this one is probably the cheapest. The average ticket price is about 7-8 dollars. However, if one has a student ID of some sort they offer a discount of 2-3 dollars. The student ID must be shown to the usher at the ticket line and it must be valid. The only issue I have with this theater out of all the ones in Newark, Delaware is the fact that you cannot order ahead of time online. One can however walk in and order the tickets ahead of time for that particular night’s showing. The concession stand is pretty cheap also. In other theaters located in Newark I can spend an easy 10-15 dollars on snacks. However in this theater I usually spend less than 10 dollars on snacks. When it comes to the actual movie the picture itself is not bad but the sound leaves a little to be desired. It is not as good as other theaters but in my opinion “you get what you paid for”.

2)Regal Peoples Plaza Cinema 17
1100 Peoples Plaza
Newark, DE – (800)326-3264 x173

This movie theater has the best picture and audio in Newark, Delaware. However, you get what you pay for and ticket prices to this theater are quite expensive. The concession stand is also quite expensive. For two people it usually will cost somewhere between 30-45 dollars including snacks. This theater does offer reserve seating via ordering your tickets online via fandango.com. One must note that ordering tickets online is more expensive than ordering them at the theater. At this point in time fandango.com charges a 1-2 dollar online tax. This theater also offers “matinĂ©e discounts” in which if you show up before 2:00pm you will receive a dollar or two off the ticket price. Please call them beforehand to learn more about this special as it has probably changed since I last visited.

3)Cinemark Movies 10
1796 Wes Newport Pike
Wilmington, DE
(800) 32632646-1437
http://www.cinemark.com/

This theater is expensive but not as expensive as Regal Peoples Plaza Cinema 17. Also in my opinion their website is done better than Regal Peoples Plaza Cinema 17. Their concession stand does not have all the options that Regal Peoples Plaza Cinema 17 but does have more options than Cinema Center 3 F&G.; This theater also has a lot of special events and contests. More information on this is available on their website.

4)Theatre N at Nemours
1007 Orange Street
Wilmington, DE
(302) 571-4699

Perhaps the only independent theater in the Newark and Wilmington area. This theater specializes in independent films that you would normally not see in mainstream cinema. The picture and audio is decent and their concession stand is adequate. Their prices are also pretty cheap. The normal ticket price is 7 dollars and 5 dollars for students if they show adequate ID.

5)AMC Painter’s Crossing 9
112 Wilmington Pike
West Chester, PA
(888) 262-4386

This theater is equal to Regal Peoples Plaza Cinema 17 in terms of picture and audio. The prices here are generally more expensive due to its location in West Chester Pennsylvania. Remember that while in Pennsylvania one is subjected to Pennsylvania sales tax. Delaware does not have any sales tax. Overall this theater is nice to Pennsylvanians as they do not have to travel as far.
