10) Jezebel
Though many celebrity gossip sites are obsessed with unapologetic superficiality, Jezebel.com takes the slightly higher road by mixing in some actual news with all the fluff. This is a good last stop on the celeb gossip train because it is pseudo-intellectual and provides a bit of guilt free schadenfreude. That’s right, they use words like “schadenfreude.”
Most Common Celebrities: Gossip Girls stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise, Tyra Banks, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama
If you don’t want to be dealing with all of them big words, this site should give you plenty of shiny pictures, gossip, and links to celebrismut. They even make up dumb words like I just did.
Most Common Celebrities: Britney Spears, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, Victoria Beckham
This site is obviously unapologetically superficial, however in that way it’s a much more straightforward way of celebrity blog entertainment. Their layout is professionally glossy looking and they’re backed by E! Entertainment, so their efforts to distract you are very well funded.
Most Common Celebrities: Christina Aguilera, Lauren Conrad, Beyonce, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie
This is the poor man’s Perez Hilton. It has more attitude and commentary than substance, but it’s engaging nonetheless.
Most Common Celebrities: Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Miley Cyrus, Lance Bass, Britney, anyone from The Hills
6) Dlisted
Dlisted.com is a very thorough and limitless celebrity gossip blog. It’s a great starting point because it links to many other sites and is updated frequently. This would be the best bet if you have a life and only time to visit one celeb blog.
Most Common Celebrities: All of the above.
5) Jossip
If you’re looking for a flashier and easier to digest version of Gawker, Jossip.com is a good choice. Whereas Gawker makes you click to other blogs in their network to get more diverse pieces of news, Jossip integrates everything on one blog and makes fairly decent editorial choices. The downside is this page is not updated every five freaking minutes like some of us require.
Most Common Celebrities: Madonna, politicians, Anderson Cooper, anyone from Gossip Girl, political pundits
There’s no doubt this is the funniest celebrity gossip blog. It incorporates lots of video and good comedy writing. Not everyone goes to entertainment blogs to have a laugh, but if you’re ever in the mood for real-time comedic gossip, bestweekever.tv won’t let you down.
Most Common Celebrities: Very diverse celebrity topics, but include the inevitable Gossip Girl coverage.
3) Gawker
Gawker.com is the gold standard for pseudo intellectual celebrity dish. The weirdest thing about this site is it makes you care about a bunch of New York socialites you had never even heard of. That can be very disconcerting, but it’s just the spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down. Lots of successful writers, entrepreneurs, and actually interesting people are discussed here. For that, they had to be in my top three.
Most Common Celebrities: politicians, media professionals, novelists, New York socialites, and everyone from that freaking Gossip Girl show.
2) Perez Hilton
Love him or hate him, there’s a reason that Perez Hilton is the single most successful blog personality on the internet: His page is regularly updated without overkill and his commentary is brilliantly engaging. That’s right, even a picture of James Van Der Beek with the caption “sup,” is enough to warrant returned visits. Even when you find Perez mildly annoying, without noticing you’ll breeze through 10 pages of cheap MS Paint drawings on paparazzi shots.
Most Common Celebrities: Madonna, Miley Cyrus, politicians, Heidi Montag, Travis Barker, Linday Lohan, Katie Holmes, J-Lo, Lance Bass, Pete Wentz, Jessica Simpson, Simon Cowell, George Michael, High School Musical stars, The Hils stars, and the people from that one show, you know, about the gossiping with the girls and guys and all that.
1) TMZ
TMZ.com is trashy, a waste of time, addictive, and sometimes even depressing, but they break a lot of big celebrity stories and almost every other celebrity gossip blog feeds off of their leads. I couldn’t decide whether to place this blog first or last because it represents the lowest common denominator on the web. Regardless, you should probably go to this site if you want to completely escape the real world. It’s also a lot cheaper than buying plane tickets to LA.
Most Common Celebrities: Anyone with an IMDB listing in LA who leaves their house.
